We are turning our yard in Hamden CT into a mini food forest designed to feed everybody—humans, insects, wildlife, and soil microbes. we believe such plantings will aid in wildlife survival, build community, increase food security, and help connect people to nature.
We are documenting our experience in the hope that our successes, failures, and techniques can be of use to you, and will give you the confidence to try something new in your yard. We will post about our progress, as well as information we can share from our horticulture experience.
We believe that care of the land and readjustment of our agricultural systems is critical right now. We lose topsoil, wild ecosystems, and aquifers every year with our current farming practices. Food production must be moved closer to home and open space be converted into wildlife habitat.
